I started my GMAT Prep with Magoosh Premium Course. I was surprised by the clarity of concepts presented in the video's. I used Magoosh for both Quants and Verbal. I would say Magoosh's Quants videos can be considered among one of the best in the market, but verbal needs some work. One of the best advantage is the number of questions and the detailed video explanations for the questions. They have around 500 Questions in their database and they are really good.
The advantages i found with Magoosh are listed below:
Very good Quant
Excellent Questions
Customizable Study Plans
Amazing Customer Support [One of the best i have seen in market]
Reasonable Pricing
Overall i would recommend Magoosh to any one who are at the start of their preparation.
I tried a bunch of free products from various sites before finally choosing Magoosh. I got it at a discount for $120. I was aware that their Verbal modules were probably not the best, but my main objective was to revise certain high school math topics I was rusty on.
Mike is a great teacher. He makes it a point to reiterate the important stuff several times and tells you which videos you can skip based on your prior knowledge. The Magoosh Help portal connects you to him and I was able to clear several doubts this way.
I didn't watch a lot of Verbal videos on the platform, so I'm probably not the best person to review them.
One thing that I didn't like about Magoosh was its mocks. The questions were picked directly from their practice question bank and the scoring didn't make sense to me.
Overall, Magoosh worked well for my needs because I just needed a recap. Their quant videos were the best part.
I started my prep as a self-study. I choose Magoosh because of it's accessibility in price. I didn't want to shell out a massive amount of money for my course, and in that sense, Magoosh definitely met my needs, because I find it's one of the best value preps out there. I used Magoosh in the following capacities:
1) I was a strong Verbal student, so I went through maybe 25% of the verbal questions, and did not review all of Verbal videos, though they offer many. I did review the Sentence Correction Verbal videos, however, because that was an area of weakness for me. I found that reviewing those videos, paired with an intense study of the Verbal questions (Very Hard Questions) led to the strong score I received in Verbal.
2) I used it for Math review. I watched every single Magoosh math video, and did the questions related to it (From Easy --> Very Hard). At the time of my exam, I was getting every "Hard" question right.
Overall, I scored a 700, with a very high V score, and a low Q score. That leads me to believe that even though I devoted 80% of my time to Math, I wasn't able to reap the rewards I wanted. It's for this reason that, while I think Magoosh prepped me well, I encourage low quant people to look at courses aimed at improving Quant scores.
Magoosh videos are structured to give you a very good preliminary outline of the otherwise scattered GMAT curriculum. Mike is comprehensive in his approach towards explaining the quantitative and verbal concepts. The content for quantitative learners is as good as you’ll get on the street, verbal is par (slightly lower) than other content providers.
I particularly like their approach of addressing GMAT as a 'logic' test - hence very good for beginners. However, for practicing on an advanced level, one might need to look at other resources too. Overall, a good buy for someone who is starting out with their preparation.
The quant section helped me brush up my basic knowledge with video explanations. It is very convenient and user-friendly because it is easy to track what you have learned. It tells how much time you have spent on each section, there are some applications, which are in GMAT-like style to test whether you totally understand the lessons and apply to GMAT or not. The program is interactive and focuses on your weaknesses. The support team at Magoosh is extremely cordial and understanding. All issues are quickly resolved within 24 hours. I believe Magoosh’s core value puts students’ priority at its focus, something that is strongly reflected in the e-GMAT support team. Magoosh blogs and videos helped me to rebuild the confidence. I would strongly recommend this service to anyone because I think the value provided for the cost is great.
One of my colleagues referred me to Magoosh for GRE prep. I really liked the format of the website, questions, online support and video explanations. So when magoosh offered 78USD sale for GMAT I jumped and took it. My score before taking magoosh was at 580. My confidence was very low at that time. Magoosh blogs and videos helped me to rebuild the confidence.
The course material for Magoosh premium subscription consists of a video lectures for all topics then followed by more than 1000-1500 questions for quant and verbal arranged in the order of difficulty. Each question is supported with the text and video explanation. I personally liked the option to choose the number, type and difficulty of questions. This helped me to time my preparation. Magoosh is a best and affordable resource that someone who is starting their GMAT preparation should consider using it. Most of my basic concepts for SC & math are built solely by magoosh video lectures. The online support for questions was awesome, the responses were well rounded and quick. Even when I put dumbest of the questions, I get a relevant response.
So Magoosh is a great resource. Go for it.
I used Magoosh Premium for achieving my GMAT score. I used it for building up my basic concept and as a main practice tool for both Quant and Verbal. Total I exercised not less than 587 practice questions.
Pros :
- All of the questions are explained by VIDEO. This is a HUGE plus point! I love to see the explanation from Brent and MikeMcGarry.
- MikeMcGarry explanation, especially on the Quant section really fascinating me. He explained the basic concept detailly and sometimes in not so common way. Big thanks to MikeMcGarry.
- Magoosh's customer service, undoubtedly, is the best, inseparable part of the course. Every single question was answered in a relatively short period and with crystal clear explanation. Big applause for this service!
- Magoosh whole environment : website and mobile apps are simple, efficient and easy to follow. For OCD person like me, this is a very good point.
Cons :
- To be honest, I relied heavily on this course, probably this was my mistake - especially when tackling SC questions. Overwhelmed with so many explanations in GMATClub Forum for SC (and sometimes contrast one another), I intensified my SC practice solely on Magoosh - and jumped on OG SC Questions 2 weeks before my first GMAT Test. I immediately felt that OG SC Questions two or three times harder! Magoosh SC's questions have their own pattern, sometimes too mechanical - I had to change totally my approach to SC. After this nightmare, I stopped working on Magoosh practice questions.
Recommended for :
- Anyone who loves to watch video explanation.
- Anyone who wants to brush up his basic skills - especially Quant.
Thank you Magoosh anyway!
I found Magoosh material decent enough to kickstart my preparation with. The numerous videos and questions provide ample concepts and practice.
It allows resetting question bank which is a good option to retake tests. I found the Idioms handbook pretty useful. The flashcards is an interesting way to learn while relaxing your mind from the usual ways of learning.
But the difficulty level is on the lower side. So, I further used Manhattan books in addition to OG content to further my preparation.
I will recommend this course to those who want to start their preparation from the very basics.
I had taken the Magoosh Premium Course to start my preparation for the GMAT test. It was referred to me by a friend who was able to get a 750 course using this series. Even though I got a score of only 640, the course was very helpful in making me understand the basic concepts. It was the right starting foundation which helped me in my further preparation. I complemented it with OG and Manhattan mocks. The videos were very helpful in helping me get my fundamentals clear. But the best part of Magoosh course are the online video explanations which keep the users engaged.
The Verbal videos of the product are really good. The verbal questions were also good, but not close to the official questions. The tagging of questions and videos is a good feature.
Coming to the Quant part, the videos have lot of detail. Some might feel that the videos are too lengthy. The questions are either easy or hard. There are few GMAT 700 level questions.
Overall, this is very good for the preparation. For questions, esp. Verbal, please don't go beyond the official questions.
Also, the study plan offered by Magoosh is really good (if you can follow the same).
Considering the Value for Money, I guess this is the best product out there.
Hi,
When you say not to go beyond official questions for verbal. What do you mean? I just verbal the verbal section of Magoosh and wanted to check if the questions were good enough.
Please share your advice here. :)
Thanks
Dev
The Official questions are the best for Verbal preparation. Other products do not match them - by that I mean the framing of the answer options, the language and the tone.
