I was very weak in quant had scored 25 in my first attempt, magoosh took me from a 25 to 36 on my second attempt.
excellent video lessons and their email support is mind-blowingly good. Great value for money. I think it's one of the best products for gmat quant.
their verbal section is just about okay, and won't help non natives much.
also their practice questions are quite easy, I had a score of 40-44 on their score predictor, but I scored a 36 on the actual test, so you can't rely on their extra questions for practice, however great tool and interface for learning concepts. If you get a question wrong, they will suggest lesson videos for you to fill in the gaps in conceptual understanding.
overall, magoosh is really good!
When I started out, I was probably around 550, with a really weak quant and a fairly strong verbal. My first strategy was to go through all the video material and do a lot of exercises. Just simple hard work, no tactics or anything else than just putting in the hours. After about a month of part time studies (slightly more than 70 hours) I got 590 on a practice test.
This obviously was not enough for my target score of 650. I revisited the quant concepts I was struggling with and immersed myself in test taking strategies and was able to pull off a Q42 V42 with a score of 690 after about 20 hours more of effective studying. I improved my quants substantially and had it not been for Magoosh I would never have scored a 96th percentile verbal score as a non-native speaker.
I am sure that if I gave it another month or two with Magoosh on quant, I'd be able to push into the 720 range. But I'm happy with my current score and hope to be accepted to my Msc of choice.
The only thing I can't review is the IR, because I really didn't pay any attention studying to that. Kind of regret that now that I see how far a little preperation can go. Anyways, Magoosh helped me in a way that make me happy to recommend it to anyone who wants to get good and general help with everything related to GMAT.
Maybe if you're already around 700, want to add 30 points and don't know your exact weakness, it might be lacking the resources to really go deep into your specific weakness. But it will go a really long way. I couldn't be happier!
I used Magoosh only for quant and mostly at the beginning of my study. Magoosh is all about understanding fundamentals. The videos go into great length explaining the logic behind each formula, insisting that we shouldn't just memorize the rules but truly understand how they come about and how to tweak them for different types of questions. Each lesson group is followed by a set of exercises comprising of mostly easy and medium difficulty questions. The videos can take awhile to go through but they are definitely worth it as our understanding of the fundamentals are key to tackling more difficult problems. I start out with Magoosh then come to gmatclub to learn about short cuts and do 700+ level questions. I owe my 760 to Magoosh and therefore highly recommend Magoosh if you are willing to invest time to really learn the material.
Magoosh was incredibly helpful for me in my attempt to obtain a top GMAT score. I took the test 5 years ago, and scored a 620. Granted, I went in with no knowledge of the exam (didn’t know there was a quant and verbal section). I started using Magoosh because it seemed like a good product for a significantly lower price than the other tools offering similar score increases. I started using their 6 month beginners study plan, but things were going so well, that I decided to take a practice test to see where I stood. I realized that I was ready for the test, so I signed up and continued to use Magoosh every day to stay ready until test day. The videos and practice problems are awesome!
I was already familiar with the GMAT format having taken the test 3 months prior after a classroom course. Magoosh has an amazing amount of content for the price. This course has all the tools you need to self-study for the GMAT including access to a lot of practice questions, detailed explanations for each question, and video lessons. This site isn't the only self-study course out there but I think its definitely one of the most convenient and effective. The video explanations after each question is wonderful. I'm confident this score will get me exactly what I need.. Anyway, I found Magoosh extremely helpful and I highly recommend it.Ultimately I think Magoosh was a big help when combined with the MGMAT books and I would recommend Magoosh to friends.
I would like to start by saying that I feel as though I need to repay Magoosh back for the assistance they provided me during my 3 month study time and this is the best way I can show my appreciation. Yes, I truly believe their team and platform is that good.
What stands Magoosh apart from other companies? Dedication and less smoke and mirrors. What do I mean by the latter? There are two main things that really impressed me about Magoosh's approach. First, they actually recommend using material from other companies! Crazy, right? But Magoosh realized that Manhattan has done a pretty solid job writing in depth guides and instead of competing with Manhattan over guides, Magoosh embraces that fact and suggests that students include that in their curriculum. Second, Magoosh material is not overly difficult to scare students into buying more content. I have taken Veritas prep exams, don't get me started on the their verbal section, and Manhattan exams that are a lot more difficult than the actual test. While I can appreciate the concept of if I can do more difficult questions than I should be fine with easier questions on the actual test; however, I feel that this really affects the pacing of the test and timing strategies. Magoosh's question set is very similar to the actual test.
And finally the Magoosh team. I have nothing but the upmost respect for the team. I joined a free RC session with another company on the GMATclub forums and I am not sure if there was a cultural difference but I felt as those the presenter was extremely critical of the students. In my opinion there were moments of entrapment where the presenter would ask "why are you struggling with RC" and if you selected "can't concentrate on subject matter" the presenter would respond by saying "Do you not understand that this material is for 3 to 5 questions?" or "Is this not important to you?". That is not the type of motivation I needed in an area I am struggling in. I tried two free sessions from this company and realized it was not for me. This was mentioned because Mike McGarry at Magoosh expects the practice of excellence when posting, especially if it is regarding a verbal topic. The way that Mike handles the pursuit of excellence is vastly different from the other company because Mike takes the route of encouragement instead of belittlement. Please keep that in mind.

Bests of luck with your studying!
I started my prep by referring to books-Manhattan, Kaplan and more but realised soon that I am going all haywire in my approach. To structure it, I bought this course which after a promotional scheme, came at a very affordable cost. This is really a great course which has video based study modules dissected into different GMAT topics with videos ranging from 3-15 mins. It especially works well for people who are on the go and want to cramp up small study sessions basis the availability of time. You just have to be consistent and you can cover almost entire syllabus within a short period of time.
Quant section is extremely useful with focus being given on understanding the concept and not on just cramming some formulae or rote method of learning.
A word of caution here: this course alone will not take you to great heights of GMAT score. It's a really good course for beginners or for people who have no clue about where to start and are doing there prep all alone. By going through it, you will gain confidence which will allow you to attempt practice Qns from other sources/books and which is extremely important. Couple this course with some more additional resources and you'll be good to go.
Bottomline: Don't think much if you are just starting off...buy it and start learning from Day#1.
Happened to know Magoosh through one of the emails from UC Berkeley Haas, listed among recommended GMAT courses.
- GMAT score before: 690
- GMAT score after: 730
- Duration: 31 days
*Good
- Very structural approach on how I can customize my practice
- Good and detailed explanation to let me know how to avoid the same mistake
- Show recommended lesson at the bottom on answer: trust me, you will love this tool
- Wonderful customer service,: indeed i had 31 days away from my exam, but the CS officer was so kind to extend 1 day for free (from my purchase of 30-day package) so that i could review on my last day before exam.
*Bad
- They have multiple mobile apps like Flash card for Verbal, Maths... i hope they can integrate all into one app - one platform
Magoosh was a great tool. I took it in combination with a GMAT course, but ended up using Magoosh more heavily than any resources through the other course. The tutorial videos are brief and succinct, and the video and text explanations for every practice question were hugely helpful. Magoosh has practice tests, but also customized practice, so you can work on your timing for the exam in sets of 20 or 30 minutes, for example. What's especially helpful is that you can track your progress, and see any patterns of errors coming out of your practice. I would definitely recommend Magoosh for anyone thinking of taking the GMAT. Magoosh makes it incredibly easy to get started studying, and to keep studying.
I purchased Magoosh verbal+math for my GMAT preparation. The cost if very reasonable (99 dollars for one year) and it provides a great list of resources.
I especially like the Magoosh apps on IOS. It has a lot of videos for sentence correction and maths. I can watch a video on my way to work. The video is very easy to understand and you can also adjust the speed to make it faster.
The website also provides a lot of practice questions and mock exams. Overall, I think it helps me a lot to score 740 in my first attempt. I would recommend it.
