Someone mentioned Stacy Blackman, which you should avoid in my opinion (from stories I’ve been told). Menlo is great, but pricey. I used Aringo and had a good experience. Get testimonials from real students, interview each consultant, and listen to your heart. Ignore most reviews, as they’re too fluffy

Hi! I would start working on your to-do list as soon as possible.
*First - if you haven’t taken the GMAT/GRE yet that will be a priority, I’d try to have the first attempt by mid-July with room for a second attempt if needed in August
*Right now you can work on networking, creating an MBA resume (we did a GMAT Club Youtube on this yesterday), and formulating your Short and Long-term Goals
*Some applications are already published, but the rest will be out by mid-June, so plan to start by ~June 15 on essays
*July -early August you are working on refining your materials
*Early September you are submitting applications

Typically candidates will apply to 5-7 schools to help their odds of landing an admit. There will be a mix of Stretch, Target and Safety schools on that list.

Hi Jenifer,
How’re you?
I would like to ask that I am currently an English language teacher in govt school specially for underprivileged children. It’s a boarding school.
Considering the set of skills of a teacher, do you think I should directly apply to B schools this year? Or should I do a short term course and switch job to private sector and then apply next year? I plan to take gmat test in july. Target- atleast 685

Great question - there aren’t many that don’t have a STEM designation option right now, so I’m not sure this eliminates much from the list of possibilities. What are your post MBA goals?

I think you can go for the MBA now, no need for additional work - you will need to make sure your resume/essays demonstrate your transferrable skills - management, leadership, supply chain mgmt, finance... etc. But no need to go get another job just to apply to an MBA. ((Answer would be different if you told me you wanted to go into Finance/IB or something more technical))

I automatically think of the Tech MBA programs - NYU, Cornell, Kellogg - if you are up for the 1 year program, typically the employment rate is close to 100%, including international students - check with current students/recent grads to see if this is true for the class graduating now... but its generally a strong path.
These schools are also a great option with the 2yr program, depending on profile, MIT, Duke, Tepper, Ross...

Appreciate it! A short follow-up question on what you mentioned. Are 1 year MBAs as respected right now? Since the duration is shorter, the general perception is that there is a shorter duration for networking and building your profile across just 1 year. Would love to hear your thoughts.

The degree is the same - MBA, that will be what goes on your resume/linkedin profile after, so it won’t be valued less in the future, it will have the same weight as 2 year MBA to an employer. Personally, depends on you - if you are looking forward to joining clubs and soaking in the college experience... then the 1 year programs may not be the best fit since they are so fast and intense (INSEAD is 10 months!), but you also have less debt and faster ROI... so you can factor these into your decisions.

While this is a very individual perspective, I have never given a serious recognition to anything ’online’. Of course, one may have done significant work and that should reflect in what you showcase. Impact is what matters most.

If it ties very closely to your profile and what you want to do post MBA, it would be of help.

Broadly though, if something is not too hard to obtain (e.g. online certification), odds are many MBA applicants would do it, and it may no longer present you with an edge.

I would suggest pursuing something hands-on (e.g. an internship, a consulting project, or even advising a start-up on their business plans - if consulting is your post-MBA goal). This would make your case stronger and present transferable skills.

I am making the assumption that when you say Masters, you are referring to MBA - if so, and since you wish to start in Sep 25, you should (ideally) aim to apply in R1. For this, you should have your GMAT score in hand by mid July (worst case scenario) in order to prepare well for your applications. It is highly recommended that you factor 2-3 months for the multiple streams of work that is needed to be done for developing strong applications. If you push out your applications to R2, then you can work backwards on your deadlines for having the score in hand.

Hi Charvii !It depends on a lot of factors I personally gave the GMAT this year in February and Converted ESSEC , ESCP , WHU and Frankfurt in R3 so a few points from my side based on personal opinion
1. If you are confident that your GMAT is up to the mark for applying in the current round then its better to apply as early as possible for the next intake the applications open by September so June mid to July mid is an optimum choice
2. If you think that your GMAT prep is not complete or the score in your current attempt wont suffice and your CV doesn’t have enough points to support your below par score(if the score is below. the average of current class) then its better to go for a retake and not gamble your chances of application for the year(PS: Its not normally recommended to wait for the last round)

Hope this helps !

Happy to pitch in. See you need to understand that clean energy is a vast spectrum, even if it’s a niche. Popular areas of interest in this are energy and environment, energy finance, alternative energy, cleantech, etc. In each area there could be multiple functions. If you are not interested in consulting (finance seems far-fetched if you have no experience), research which companies you would like to join and contact them now to understand what MBA-level positions they offer. Your current role in power generation, whether you have worked on a renewable or non-renewable energy, can help you contextualize the importance of global sustainability trends and clean technologies and make your insights relevant for conversations with recruiters. You may need to tailor your goal to the school you are applying to and the companies hiring in that region. If you are applying to an MBA program in the EU/UK or US/Canada or Australia, you should research hiring opportunities for energy companies in those respective regions. Look at internship/job reports and see the percentage of jobs in the energy/sustainability sector. You need to do your own research and you cannot trust others to do this for you. Look for schools that have significantly improved their focus on sustainability in recent years through courses and linkages. Almost all top schools in countries have increased the focus now. There are so many in the US. Outside of the US, LBS, INSEAD and other top EU/UK schools have special tie-ups for this pipeline. ExxonMobil, Chevron, Vestas, Siemens and BP are some of the top recruiters in this field, but there are so many hiring from all over!
Reach out should you want professional guidance
