The correct answer choice should be C. A, B and D are irrelevant to the argument made by the author.

E - exactly opposite to what author's conclusion is.

Plus regarding the negation technique, if you negate the correct answer choice, it should weaken the argument. If you negate answer choice E, it is strengthening the argument.

In numerous cases, authentic paintings are recognized as authentic by the program. This is making the argument strong. Hence E cannot be a correct answer choice. Moreover the focus of the argument is about recognizing the forgery and expert forgers not able to match the painters characteristics.

Hence C is a correct answer choice as per me. Thank You.

For me C is the best conclusion.

While reading the premise I was thinking that since the program has all the details of artists' techniques, it should be able to differentiate between a painting that is a forgery and a painting that is made by a great artist. C explains that.

This is GMATPill Framework #8 Inference.

The question stem that tells us this is an "inference" question is "...can be logically concluded..."

So actually you might not necessarily use negation here -- negation is used to find an answer choice that SUPPORTS the argument presented in the passage.

Here, we are actually doing something different. We are finding an answer choice that is SUPPORTED BY information in the passage.

What is some of that supporting information? Well the last sentence says forgers cannot hope to be able to replicate all aspects of a pro master artist. Well...if that's true...if they can't fully replicate a pro artist...and the computer program can detect *all* aspects....then the computer program can detect a fraud when it sees a forgery that does not score fully in all criteria. So that's why information in the passage supports C.

The reasoning presented via negation is not something you want to follow for an inference should be looking at it using the gmatpill INFERENCE framework.

... and more
