George Bernard Shaw wrote: " That any sane nation, having observed that you could provide for the supply of bread by giving bakers a pecuniary interest in baking for you, should go on to give a surgeon a pecuniary interest in cutting off your leg is enough to make one despair of political humanity." Shaw's statement would best serve as an illustration in an argument criticizing which of the following? (A) Dentists who perform unnecessary dental work in order to earn a profit (B) Doctors who increase their profits by specializing only in diseases that affect a large percentage of the population (C) Grocers who raise the price of food in order to increase their profit margins (D) Oil companies that decrease the price of their oil in order to increase their market share (E) Bakers and surgeons who earn a profit by supplying other peoples' basic needs

I think it should be D.
The stimulus explains that by providing an interest amongst the bakers the govt generates the demand;
similar to reducing the price by the Oil company to simulate interest 2 drive up the profit!!.
Confused!!

Confused!! the usage of the word pecuniary is important here. pecuniary means related to money. so the interest among the bakers is also related to money-making.

(C)WINS Arguments says that the bakers and doctors are trusted and encouraged by the "you" (people of sane nation) but the doctors take undue advantage by cutting the legs, similarly the grocers take the undue advantage by hiking price,although the public trust the grocer that what he is charging is reasonable. (A) is not correct because Dentist do unnecessary surgeries only when the patient is agree with it , it doesn't mean that the dentist is charging HIGHER for those work.

I'll go with A The argument, says that just because someone gives some incentives for bakers to produce bread, doesn't mean that incentives should be given to surgeons to cut your leg off. So, in effect, it is criticizing the surgeons' work. So, the answer choice will follow the same reasoning.
