In one of the explanations of OG
it is given that x^2 > 1
this means

x>1
and x<-1

how ??
I thought it should be
x>1
and x>-1

Please kindly explain

Yes, x^2>1 means that x<-1 or x>1. You can look at this in another way: x^2>1 is the same as |x|>1 --> x<-1 or x>1.
