Why is Option 2 also not sufficient by itself?

For all negative numbers < -3.
x^3 > -9

and for all negative number >= -3
X^3 < -9

So from info in Option 2 alone tooo, I can reach an answer about whether x < -3.

I'm not too sure what we are trying to prove but I'm guessing the question is asking whether x^3<-9

If so, in option to the choices are -3 <= x<0

If x = -3, or -27 the answer is yes -27 is less than -9
if x = -2 or -8 then the answer is no, -8 is not less than -9

I am unsure whether I can post the entire question here from a book (copyright issues). But anyone who has the book, pleaase look at the question - read the credited answer and my question above, and let me know how could the book possibly be correct?

Try plugging in -3
-27<-9 but -3 is not less than -3
