can someone explain this to me. I dont understand the logic behind it.

how do we go from
|x| = |y|
to
x/y = |1|

|x| = |y| means x=+-y or y=+-X
so in any case x/y=+-1

x/y could be 1 or -1. therefore is l1l.

You can say that |x/y| = 1 as long as x and y are not both 0, but not that x/y = | 1 |.

|x|/|y| = 1

|x/y| = 1

x/y = 1
-(x/y) = 1 --> x/y = -1

x/y = |1|
