Alternative Transcript- Pls advise [#permalink] New post 13 Jan 2009, 09:43
Hello-

I'm applying this upcoming fall and wanted to take some courses to build an alternative transcript. I was a history major so I do not have many quant classes. Of the ones I've taken, I've just done average. Calc B, Stats C-, Econ C.

Does it matter if I take additional courses at a community college or would it be better I take at say UCIrvine Extension or UCLA extension? I was thinking about retaking Mac Econ, Mic Econ, and possibly another Math class before the fall comes around.

Or would it be better to just take CFA lvl 1 and pass it to counter my lack of quant. This would also be in line w/ my line of work in asset management.

Please advise. Thanks.

Don't do the CFA unless you're going into asset management. It's not meant as a counterexample to your GPA.

Focus on taking coursework at a community college or university - it really doesn't matter which so long as it's accredited and the courses fit your schedule. Take one or two courses and you should be fine.

Thanks Alex. I have read on some blogs that I don't need to take classes like Financial Acctg and Managerial Acctg. Instead should take classes like Micro/Macro Econ + Math. Do you agree with this? Which classes would most help counter my lack of quant plus help on a stronger transcript?

Any class that is quantitative in nature and fits your schedule - it could be calculus (a freshman level equivalent class is fine), stats, algebra, finance, microeconomics, or accounting. It doesn't really matter. You can even take physics if you wish.
