Alternative Transcript: Should I take more classes? [#permalink]
05 Dec 2012, 09:34
Hello!
I am planning to enroll in the NYU Stern Langone Part-Time program for Fall 2013. Applications come out around the end of January/early February and are due May 15. I am just about to finish up 2 UCLA Extension courses: - Mathematics for Management - Principles of Accounting A (Part 1)
And I'm pretty confident I'll get an A *crosses fingers* in both classes. Question is, should I take more classes? I was thinking about taking Principles of Accounting B (Part 2) and a Marketing class since that's what I want to go into, but not sure if I should. I don't want to if it's not necessary- it costs a lot of time and $$. But because of my incredibly lackluster undergraduate GPA, I'm thinking I should....
Advice greatly appreciated! I'll need to sign up by 12/15 to get the discounted price (-50$).

As a general rule, schools will weigh your most recent academic grades most heavily in determining your academic abilities and potential. So, the two A's you are getting at UCLA will give your application some good momentum. However, if your grades from undergrad are mediocre, I would say invest in one more class and make it a hard one to show NYU admissions that you are not afraid to tackle a demanding academic classes. So, I would recommend classes like Accounting 2 and Calculus. Kimberly Plaga Senior Admissions Consultant Manhattan Review

Thanks for your quick response Kimberly! I'll definitely invest in at least one other class. During my undergraduate, I got a B in Calculus. Should I still consider retaking it?

I got a C+ in Calculus my freshman year in undergrad.
I re-took the course last summer and got a B+. It's not an "A", however it was an accelerated course (4 nights/week for 5 weeks) and I took it while working full time.
Do you think a B+ will be looked down upon or would AdCom appreciate the effort given the circumstances?

I took 3 quant heavy courses at extension and got 2 As and 1 B before applying to offset the crap grades I got in undergrad. The more you're confident in it, the better.

Chris558: No need to retake calc. Take another accounting or finance class. Your B in Calc is good enough. DMN31: Your B+ in Calc is more than fine. Calc is a difficult subject and this more than demonstrates your ability to learn complex quantitative materials.
