Application Issue [#permalink] New post 05 Oct 2005, 10:44
Hi

My background is Big4 accounting firm and I departed for London in order to move in Investment Banking but it has not come off so I am going to do an MBA and make the transition after completing it.

Because of the move to London I have contracted around the city as an accountant and therefore for the last 12 months I have worked at places like Morgans Stanley etc but do not have worked in a contractual capacity instead of a permanent one which is common in the financial centre.

Therefore, I am applying to schools with no company to support me and no references from bosses because I never stay in any one place for longer than 3 months.

My questions are:

1 How do I make my situation more appealing to a school with the fact that I do not have my old firm behind me?

2 Get over the fact that have no boss to write me a nice reference?

1 -- You can play up the fact that you've worked / seen a lot different organizations and therefore have learned a lot more than if you had been with just one. It's the old consultant argument and you can position yourself as a consultant.

2 -- Tough question. My recommendation would be to seek out a couple clients with whom you really quicked and ask them.
