AWA Question [#permalink] New post 15 Sep 2006, 19:59
How does the AWA score figure into your final score? Or is it spearate?

I haven't spent much time practicing this but I'm cramming it into my regular verbal/quant regiment this last week. I want to know if for some reason I get a tough set of topics and suffer a severe case of writers block, will it affect my final score much?

The AWA is completely separate from the other scores and does not factor into your final numerical score. I think it's commonly believed that many school put little to no weight on the AWA score. An extremely low AWA score could make a school question the authenticity & originality of application essays (were they written by a 3rd party?) but other than that, I think the AWA means almost nothing.

For e.g. the INSEAD app does not even ask for the AWA score. I concur with pelihu for the rest.

I agree as well. An AWA of less than 4.0 will raise some eyebrows, yet an AWA of 6.0 doesn't help much at all. Which sucks since I easily got a 6.0 on my first GMAT but blew the rest (can we say, retake?!. D'oh!

Is the AWA so easy to score a 6.0?

so if the score is below 4.0, it means the essay must be very bad, or even completely not understandable?

but that INSEAD does not look at AWA at all is very surprising.
