Can i make it..Profile Evaluation plz [#permalink] New post 05 Sep 2007, 15:43
Hi,

I am Female/24 yrs (will be 25 at matriculation)/Indian working in America for an Indian IT Company for the last 1.5 yrs (have total of 3 yrs exp right now). I have worked closely with the client team and have gained their confidence so much so that they wanted me to join their company(am not sure how common this is). I have also suggested many process improvements such as reporting, resource allocation and billing to client which is above and beyond my scope of work. I was also involved in some client initiatives etc. (PS one of my recomenders will be my client Manager).

EC:
At College level: I was the Block Rep of my hostel. I was also involved in creating a student center/library in my college and was the Vicepresident of our student body. I organised many symposiums and collected the highest amount of funds individually for my college.
At Work: Involved with Non -profit group working for children's welfare such as conducting workshops for streetchildren, collecting books, funds for blind children and organising trips for Orphanages.
Also involved in Non-profit named AID, which works/collects funds for projects in India, such as women empowerment, Tribal movements, Tsunami relief etc. Recently organized a concert for raising funds for AID.

I am also a volleyball and cricket player (though nothing at state or national level)

GMAT: 730 (Q50 V40 AWA 5.0)
CGPA :74.3% (dont know how to convert this into CGPA but i was in the top 5% of the class)

Interested in International Business, Strategic Management and Finance.

Looking to target - MIT, Wharton, Ross, Tuck, Kellogg

Are these a long shot..if yes, what other colleges can i look at for the above fields..(I certainly need a good pay packet to repay my education debt)

Thanks in advance..

toDoorNot,

I think MIT, Wharton, Tuck, and Kellogg are semi-long shot, primarily because it's not clear from your profile that you have formal or even much informal leadership at work. The fact that you are female greatly offsets the fact that you are Indian and IT, which means you will be competing against a very larger pool. Being female largely removes you from that pool, since B-schools want more female applicants. Still you are aiming high and I'm not sure you have had the impact or have sufficient unusualness to break into those schools. Ross is more doable. Given your goals also consider Duke, Texas, perhaps Virginia and Cornell.

Good luck,
