I haven't taken the TOEFL yet, and I was wondering if I am allowed to use Notepad or TextEdit there in the test center to take notes instead of jotting down in a paper.

I'm faster at typing than at handwriting, and I certainly understand better computer font.

No, you cannot, because the TOEFL software application covers the entire screen during exam. You can't switch to/see any other application while the test is going on. Also, ETS clearly mentions taking notes on Paper.
