Hi,

I am applying to Booth Weekend program and was wondering if not taking a recommendation from my current boss would hurt my admission chances? Its easy to give a reason for this when you are applying full time. I am not sure if I can give some reason for not getting a recommendation in this case.

Any input would be really appreciated.

Hey SCP,

First, I would say that it would be best to get the recommendation, if at all possible.

I cannot give you feedback for Booth directly, but my manager kind of screwed me with recommendations. He completed them for Booth, Kellogg, and Georgetown, but then dropped the ball on NYU. He evaded all my attempts to get him to complete the last recommendation, so I wrote a letter explaining that he was unable to complete a recommendation due to his schedule. I also included a recommendation from an indirect supervisor and a peer colleague; I referenced them in my explanation essay.

The reason I say to get the recommendation if possible, is that I cant say it went over fully well with NYU. NYU has invited me for an interview, which is rare for a PT candidate. Many other PT candidates have already been admitted to the program without an interview.

My assumption is that they now want to do further due diligence before making a decision. Although I did not get outright dinged from admission, I am sure it has contributed to the delay.

Hope that helps!
