Chicago Interview Question [#permalink] New post 10 Oct 2004, 22:07
Hi-

I just signed up for the Chicago interview on 11/13 but I was wondering if I should have signed up to have it here in the Seattle area. I am still able to cancel the interview in Chicago and reschedule it so I do it here. Does it make a difference where it is held? Or does it give me a leg up if I go to Chicago to do the interview? Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

Traveling to the school to have the interview signals that you are serious about that program by committing substantial amounts of time, effort, and money to express your interest in that program.

In addition, it makes it clear that you have seen the campus firsthand.

To the extent possible, I recommend on-campus interviews. As Hjort said, it demonstrates interest and means you have seen the school. Furthermore, if are wait-listed, you will have material to use in your wait-list letter based on your visit and if accepted to multiple schools you will have a better idea which school's offer to accept. Finally, if you go to Chicago, there is a possibility that you will interview with an admissions staff member. If you do well, that can be very helpful, because you will have interviewed with a decision maker and influencer. If you don't do so well, .... But let's not go there.

Good luck!
