Does the GMATPrep software ever malfunction?

I downloaded the GMATPrep software from GMAC that comes with two practice tests. I know it seems unlikely, but I feel that the software may have malfunctioned. Tell me what you think of this...
I have taken several practice tests, including Kaplan, Princeton Review, and GMAT Online Simulator, so I have a pretty good idea how the test is supposed to go.
When I took the GMATPrep Practice Test 2 tonight, the math section started with harder than normal questions right from the first question. I did not notice much variability in the difficulty of questions throughout the whole test. The computer gave me 18 data sufficiency problems out of the 37 total questions. Is that more than normal? Isn't there a fixed number that you are supposed to get on every test? It seemed like more than normal.
I ended up getting 10 questions wrong, but GMATPrep gave me a Quant score of 48, which seems way to high, especially since SIX of my incorrect answers came in the first 20. (Normally, I make 1 or 2 mistakes max in the first 20 questions, but as I said, these seemed harder than normal. Also, to give you an idea of my quant level, I took GMAT Club Challenge 22 today and got only 4 wrong.) My incorrect answers were on questions #3, 4, 9, 14, 17, 19, 24, 25, 35, 37.
What's going on here? Is this a problem with the software, or is there some better explanation?
