A DS question from Kaplan Workbook

Does the average of a,b, and c equal c ?

1) c - a = c + b
2) c = 0

I am not satisfied with the explanation given at the end of the book.
I thought that the answer would be A as from solving for statement 1) we get a + b = 0
therefore the average for (a + b + c) /3 would give us c /3. Therefore statement 1 is sufficient to tell me that the average of the three will never be equal to c . Kaplan has a different explanation for it. Their answer was C i.e both statement taken together answers the question.

Can somebody explain it to me

Well the reason why '2' is required is because c/3 is the average NOT 'c'. So if a+b = 0 THEN c/3 is the average. Now the only way c/3 could equal to 'c' is if it's 0. That's where the statement 2 comes in picture. Make sense. Took me a bit longer to get it until it struck like a lightening... lol

1 by itself it is not sufficient because we could have two answers for the question.

c/3 would not be equal to c if c is different than 0
c/3 would be equeal to c if c=0

2 tells us that c=0

therefore answer is C
