in the following question:

how far is town A from town B? Town C is 12 miles east of town A.

1) town C is south of town B
2) It is 9 miles from town B to town C.

Do we assume that C is directly south of B, in which case 1) is suff. or do we say that just because it is south of it does not have to be directly south of, in which case the answer is E?

.... I tend to overthing the simplest questions :?

1) and 2) are insufficient...
The question is there a right angle triangle in there? We don't know.. If it read due south /due east then yes.. but in this case I think the answer is E

IMO it is C
Distance between A and B is sqrt225 or 15
From A) line CB is perpendicular to AC but we have onlz one length 12 so A is not SUFF
B) tells the distance between B and C but we do not know if line BC is perpendicular to AC so B) is also NOT suff
From both we can find AB
