I always believed that it was a bad idea to leave questions blank as the penalty is severe. So, guessing is better than leaving questions blank. But never knew that guessing is penalized as well.
I do understand that random guessing is not the best strategy but strategic time management is always the best way.
On a recent CAT practice test, I randomly guessed the last 5-6 questions. I got 45+ in that section anyway.
My questions are:
- does the GMAT algorithm penalize for random guesses?
- how does it know the guesses are random? (trying to get a quick handle on the time a person should spend on the question before selecting the answer at which point the algorithm does not think it is a random guess)
Thanks for your inputs.
