Question Stats:

0% (00:00) correct 100% (00:02) wrong based on 1 sessions
If x<0, simplify the given expression in terms of x, [(x-3)^4]^1/4 + (-x*absolute value of x)^1/2 = ??

Ans is 3-2x and I am getting -3-2x...pls help understand which sign am i missing?

\sqrt[4]{(x-3)^4}+\sqrt{-x*|x|} = ?


\sqrt[4]{(x-3)^4}=|x-3|
Since x<0 then x-3<0 and |x-3|=3-x

\sqrt{-x*|x|}=\sqrt{(-x)*(-x)}=\sqrt{x^2}=|x|=-x

\sqrt[4]{(x-3)^4}+\sqrt{-x*|x|}=3-x-x=3-2x
