Hi All,

I know this is a easy one but I didnt understand how my MA book did this factoring. Can someone please show me step by step.

7*x+4-(7*y+5)

this step i dont get

7*(x-y)-1

and then
7(x-y-1)+7-1

Thanks

Hi,

7x + 4 - (7y + 5) = 7x + 4 - 7y - 5
= 7x - 7y - 1
= 7x - 7y - 1 - 7 + 7
= (7x - 7y - 7) + 7 - 1
= 7(x - y - 1) + 7 - 1

Hope it is clear to you now.

regards,
Jack
