This is HILARIOUS. I'm Indian and I can tell you this fact -
"Give the GMAT", "Give the exam". "I gave the test" are all completely an Indian thing.
Its the way Indians speak English incorrectly. :beat :beat
Its not correct English even in India, but when you have about half a billion people making the same mistake, I wouldn't be surprised if it found its way into the grammar books.
I always laugh my ass off when someone writes this kind of English. To see a thread analyzing this, is priceless!

I don't mean this to be rude, even though it may come out that way (with this disclaimer no one can attack me), but why do so many people write on this forum that they "Gave the GMAT"?

You "Take the GMAT" or you "Took the GMAT", but you can not give the GMAT. Is "Give the GMAT", correct English in other countries (and I am an idiot) or is it just a mix-up in translation? Like I use all of the correct Spanish tenses when I speak, yeah right!!

I'm really just curious.

I completely agree with this. The testing center gives the gmat and we take the gmat
