GMAT next week - suggestions please [#permalink] New post 30 Nov 2010, 22:37
The D-day is on the 9th, i have finished the following over the last 3 month:
Kaplan math workbook
Manhattan -Critical Reasoning & Reading Comprehension
Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction
OG10/12 all problems

Over the last week the work front has gone high (i have been spending 10-11 hours at work). leaving me no time to study. I gave a test late night yesterday and scored 600 :( V30 Q42

With just 7 days to go and very little time during the weekdays.. i am not sure how to get to the score i need (would like more than 700)

Any suggestions on what to do over the next week to get there. Here are my week areas:

1. Probability/Permutation/Combination
2. still struggling with DS
3. Sentence Correction-
4. Speed and work probs.. always get confused and resort to guessing

7 days is too little time to focus on all these things at once. I would suggest ignoring the permutations, probability for now because IMO, it's not going to be tested as much on the exam. Focus on the sentence correction and Data Sufficiency questions. For DS, analyze each problem in the most simplified format. In DS, try the option ellimintion process. It should improve your score. And for SC, try 800score.com for the rules given. All the best!

Most importantly, get your DS in order. If you have trouble with a question format that is 50% of the Quant section, it will be tough to get a great score. Focus on the traps DS questions have (e.g. Sometimes important information is in the question stem itself which people tend to ignore, sometimes you need only one statement but people pick C because it seems really easy.) Establish the strategy you will use to handle them and practice it well before the test.

For the last seven days, you should try to keep your mind in the mood. For the verbal section, reading on your way to (and back to) work newspapers such as The economist might help you get back on the ride. For me, it works!

As your problem for the verbal part, do you have any details on the mains areas where you did bad? just SC? if yes, I suggest you take a few hours to go through aristotle SC material, I found them useful, and it might be a good refresher for you.
