GMAT Prep 2 - 680? [#permalink] New post 20 May 2008, 06:21
So I took GMAT Prep 2 last night and scored a 680 (Q47, V35). Needless to say all of my work in Quant is beginning to pay off as I thought quant really was not that difficult, but I missed 3 in a row in the first 8 questions and then only 6 overall. Stupid mistakes as well, I got rattled by 1 question and it cost me.

Now verbal was another story all together. I really felt like I didn't have a clue last night when I was sitting at my computer. I feel like I'm in a daze sometimes when I'm looking at SC and CR and just have no clue. It's really more of a recent phenomenon as I have been around 38-42 in Verbal in my previous practice tests. I think looking at a computer screen all day at work is really starting to bother me a bit.

I'm not really sure what to do, my test is Saturday. I think I'm going to go through MGMAT SC for a 3rd and 4th time tonight and then do a bunch of CR from OQ 11 and Verbal Guides to get my mind back in the right state. AWA on Thursday and then I'm done.

Any last minute advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can improve your verbal - 2-3 points in the real thing just be going in with a clear head, clear focus and determined concentration. 2-3 more on verbal will see you hit 700.

You can find my writeup from last year here : 8-t47351. See if it helps.

Good luck.

Thanks BSD, I think I was just off last night with a my focus. I just really couldn't concentrate on the screen. I'm making some adjustments the rest of the week. In bed by ten, 8 hours sleep a night. Good carbs and no junk or fast food for any meal the rest of the week. I also have two GNC energy bars for Saturday and I plan on half a Diet Coke or less for each break. I also am doing nothing at work for the week in order not to tire myself out. Thanks for the support.

I also often lost concentration during verbal sections early on in my preparation when I didn't have very many practice CATs under my belt. All I can say is your attention span will acclimate to the length of the test as you complete more and more practice CATs. Just don't do anything out of the ordinary during test day like drink coffee if you don't normally drink coffee. Also, don't psych yourself out! I know on test day your nerves are on end and it seems like there's a million butterflies in your stomach, but just concentrate on the basic concepts and don't let minor setbacks ruin your entire test.
