Hi

I am hearing rumours that GMAT percentile ratings are done on region basis.Ex: percentile ratings for Asia is different from north america.

could someone throw some light

I don't have any information about it, but judging from my own score, I would doubt it. For example, if I was compared to just others in my country, I probably would've expected my scores to be more balanced, especially given that I was an engineering major. My Q % was 87, while my verbal was 95, which seems like really good quant scores are skewing it. We obviously have many spanish speaking countries in North America, but I wouldn't really expect the average Mexican to be a quant jock either.

I think you'd see a better distribution for verbal in non-english speaking countries as well, but it seems like they're mostly at the extremes - bad or pretty good.

Maybe I'm just crabby that I didn't break 90% in quant

The GMAT is supposed to be the standard of comparison across people of all industries, backgrounds, and educational experiences.

It doesn't make much sense if the percentile rankings are based on region because native english speakers wouldn't show any significant advantage on their score vs a non english speaker, despite a noticeable difference in language proficiency.

Likewise, the strong quant scores typically seen in asian countries would be normalized across the entire population, and a high score wouldn't be considered a "good" score anymore because the average would be so much higher.

The percentile rank of your score shows you the percentage of test takers who scored lower than you for the most recent three-year period. Every year, each test taker’s score is updated with the most recent year’s percentiles.
