Hi guys,

Sorry, couldn't see the discussion for Q7 in M01 and neither could add the discussion anywhere else.

Although I answered this question correctly, I need a help in solving this problem in the quicker way

Question Number 7

A ship is transporting several cats and a crew (sailors, a cook, and a one-legged captain) to a nearby port. If these passengers combined have 15 heads and 41 legs, then how many cats is the ship transporting?

* 3
* 5
* 6
* 7
* 8

_______________

My explanation for this question is:
Let's denote A- cats, B- Sailors ( Don't fall into trick , as Sailors is in plural), C- cook =1, and D- captain-=1 ( and one legged)
thus we have : a+b+1+1= a+b+2 people on the board
We know that there are 15 Heads in total THUS,
a+b+2=15 heads
or a+b=13
or b=13-a

We also know that there are 41 legs in total,
Bear in mind that cats ( A) have 4 legs, and captain has 1 leg , equations is as follows:
4a+2b+2+1=41
4a+2b=38
Substitute from 1st equation:
2(2a+b) =38
2a+b=19
2a+(13-a)=10
a=6
thus C

IF you have any shorter solutions please share !

Thanks in advance :o

 BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient
 EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
 Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient

Is 143 / z an integer?
1. Z is prime number
2. 8 < z < 17

Was caught in one trap to find the value of Z but we have to find if 143 / z is an integer so C is the answer.

Dint find any link for this question so posting it here to start the discussion.

Train A leaves the Keleti station in Budapest at 5:00PM and travels to Moscow at the speed of 50 mph. If train B leaves Keleti for Moscow some time later on the same day, at what time will train B overtake train A? The distance between the cities is 970 miles.

1. Train B leaves Keleti at 6:00PM.
2. Train A travels at the speed of train B.
