GMATprep - 1st question/quant - difficulty varies [#permalink] New post 12 May 2011, 08:26
I've been taking the GMATprep CATs and the 1st question seems to really vary in difficulty each time I take it. My understanding is that they should always be the same difficulty.

Sometimes its a simple formula that takes 20 seconds and other times its an exponent question that really can stump me - and i actually feel quite confident with exponents so i dont think its because it is a weak area of mine. Has anyone experienced the same thing and has anyone who has taken the real test able to compare how their first question was relative to the different 1 question that come up when you do the Gmatprep CATs..

Any comments would be great!

Sure, logically, I agree with you.

I will offer a few potential explanations. The first question could also be experimental or it could also be the perception of question difficulty...
I have been stumped by the first question in the past too in part because I was expecting it to be simpler and help me ease into the test.
