how much work experience is too much? [#permalink]

Hi, by the time I apply to b-school I will have 8 years of WE and will be 32. My question is whether this amount is too much. I've been promoted once, but not to a management level, just a more senior role within my department. Will I be at a disadvantage here? How likely are they to wonder why I haven't a) risen higher in my organization thus far, or b) gotten an MBA already?

Hi johnnykage,

You should not be overly concerned about your work experience or age. Older candidates will face challenges because they will have to prove that it makes sense to return to school at this late stage of their career, and that they are not merely encountering a mid-career crisis. They will also have to demonstrate that all of their time in the work world has been well spent. They should demonstrate progression, tangible contributions, and a high level of self-awareness, confidence, and maturity.
