For this reason, I open this new thread to adress a specific issue which I had at that time, which was forgotten and wich is now ignored again for the reason given above.
Can please someone tell how this sentence could be the correct answer?
The OA (E) is:
The domestic cat descended from the African wildcat approximately 4,000 years ago, an exceedingly recent divergence with respect to genetic evolution and one which scarcely seems sufficient to allow the marked physical changes in the animal.
And here is the point I adressed
What the OA is E? If that'S the case, i dont understand the structure of E. (1) The cat descended from wildcat, (2) an exceedingly divergence with X and one which seems sufficient to allow....
How are both parts 1 and 2 joined together? divergences refers to cats?
divergence refers to the evolution. "one" means divergence.
Yes but the sentences 1 and 2 seem still to be unrelated to me.
Ex : the cat is black, an evolution too fast to be possible. That's not correct and our sentence seems to have the same structure.
Usually when we have a sentence starting with a clause, the word after the comma following the clause must be the modifier of a part of the 1st clause.
The cat is black, a color too dark to be seen.
Bingo! Some time ago, I had this SC posted by Futuristic wrong. There was something I didn't understand. Unfortunately, my question above was forgotten. Yesterday, I did the mgmat test, and of course I got this one wrong!
So could someone please explain why E is correct? I have the feeling that 2 different phrases are wrongly connected:
" The cat descended from the wildcat,a recent divergence with respect to genetic evolution."
ak_idc said that divergence refers to evolution. So the sentence after the colon doesn't modify the first part. To me, it is grammatically incorrect...
It is like saying: The tourist came from Italy, a short travel compared with long-distance trips.
