Informational Interviews and Consulting [#permalink]
26 Jun 2008, 19:57
Is it common practice at major firms to open up time for informational interviews? I imagine after traveling all week, the last thing consultants want to do is sit down with a prospective applicant and talk about the firm. Does anyone have any insight?
Thanks.

They do have several events during recruiting season at their core schools. Those events will include chats, dinners, drinks, etc. Other than that, I guess you'd just have to try and talk to someone from HR and figure it out.

I didn't participate in recruiting for consulting firms, but I do know that Bain, and several of the other top firms held informational sessions on campus. I think some of the slots were by invitation, based on their review of a resume book, and some slots were available first-come first-served.

Thanks for the insight. I know we have similar events with some smaller firms. However, since we are not a core for the big 3, I was more interested in if they offered them for non-core schools. It seems like two of them do, but one I am having a really tough time setting something up.

I've been doing that this week with a bunch of firms (non consulting) and so far I've had conversations set up with all of em.

Yep, I've done exactly that and have had some luck. Thanks for the advice.
