Linda,
I'm wondering if you'd be able to give me an idea of the range of schools that I'd have a good shot at given my background and credentials. I want to make sure I apply to the best schools for which I have a good chance of getting in. Right now, I'm shooting for MIT, CAL, UCLA, Northwestern, and Columbia given my interests and qualifications.
Education: Grad 2002 3.3 in Computer Science from Ivy League university
GMAT: 770 (49M, 48V). Haven't heard about AWA yet
Work experience (currently 3.5 years total):
- 2.5 years as engineer at a Fortune 500 telecom company's IT department, various roles at leadership and technical level.
- (current) 1 year at small, profitable dot-com firm. Greater product exposure and business and marketing interaction, though no official leadership role.
Other activities and qualifications:
- Developed online marketing effort for non-profit org
- Freelance work developing fully-fledged e-commerce website for a private business
- Volunteer tutor at group home
- Mandarin Chinese speaker
MBA Goals: Near term, I'd like to take on the challenging tech industry in a product marketing and corporate strategy position in a large tech firm, combining a business education, my technical background and my business-oriented personality.
Thanks so much, in advance, for your reply. Your advice is so helpful to all of us.
Joseph
Joseph,
You're most welcome. Thanks for the feedback.
You are competitive at the schools on your list and have chosen well. You may also want to consider Tuck, Michigan, and Duke, but the schools already on your list are good options given your qualifications and goals.
Good luck!
