Hi Paul,

I submited the Columbia's Goal Essay, 1120 words. They recommend 750 words for R2. I read R1 they recommended 1000 words. Is it a problem for me? I hear somewhere they say that for Goal Essay we can extend a little bit longer. I want to hear your voice.
In case that I have very strong goal essays, would it be a negative sign to extend the recommended length for Goal Essay.
Thanks, Paul

GMATcram,

1120 words for a 750-word essay is pushing it IMO. If the rest of the essays meet their length limits then it may not hurt you, but even if the essay is great, it raises the 'doesn't follow instructions' flag. Still, if your applicant gets dinged, this won't be the reason.
