Orientation Week? [#permalink] New post 11 Jun 2009, 15:22

I know it's early....I know... :-D

But I am going on long vacation in coupla weeks and I will be flying straight to Orientation Week from my vacation spot and I have to pack "right" stuff with me instead of packing it all with my moving boxes....

What are proper attires for the Orientation Week? T-shirts? Jeans? Sneakers? Or do we have to dress up?

It's still gonna be summer and worst case scenario I was planning on wearing dark denim jeans, dress shirt tucked out, suit jacket etc etc.

Will there be events that would require me to dress up professionally or would formal stuff be okay? (Have no clue what's planned during the Orientation Week.....still didn't get the schedule)

show up in drag and really make an impression...dont over think it. Show up casual and you will fit in with 90% of the people there.

If I don't respond to a PM that is not one of the previously mentioned trash can destined messages, please don't take it personally I get so many messages I have a hard to responding to most. The more interesting, compelling, or humorous you message the more likely I am to respond.

I think, unless your program has any company/alumni visits (I know there's a school that does this, but can't remember which), you should be okay with mostly casual clothing. I'd prolly throw in a couple of semi-casual outfits for any dressier gatherings. I'd also keep a couple of outfits you can run around in, on the off-chance that you have sportier pseudobonding activities.

I'm guessing you tried googling last year's orientation agenda?

At Duke, you'd want to be totally casual. They do lots of info sessions on important but boring stuff (financial aid, health insurance), and then there ARE several instances of outdoor pseudo-sporty bonding periods. Considering it's a gazillion degrees outside down here in August, shorts and tees are a must.

There are several fun evening events - an 80s party, a pub crawl - so there's whatever you'd wear out to the bars.
