I hear my wife is going to start awarding PhDs pretty soon, stay tuned.

Seriously, I don't think any organization (school or other) has ever, ever, ever, ever had hiring or promotion criteria where the ONLY criteria is having a PhD. Since the point of Univ. of Phoenix and many others is to "recognize your actual experience as a degree" then either (1) your experience is equivalent to a PhD in which case you know better, or (2) your experience is not equivalent to a PhD in which case Univ. of Phoenix won't help you.

Honestly, what can one get out of pursuing a PHD degree online? Who's going to hire you for academic positions with an online PHD? Even U of Phoenix or Webster University (never heard of it) probably won't hire their own PHD students for teaching jobs.....or do they?

Pursuing a PHD degree requires a serious commitment. I understand that depending on your circumstances, an online option might fit your need better - but, if you are going to spend money on any education, you have to think about ROI. This definitely is not the way to go.
