I would appreciate if you can evaluate my profile and let me know what I need to do in order to get into a top school

Basic demographic info:
23, Male, Indian

Educational Background:
Undergrad : Mechanical Engineering from a State University in India (GPA 3.6)
Grad: Mechanical Engineering from UPenn (GPA 3.2)
GMAT: 740

I do not intent to apply straight away as I do not have work experience but I would like to apply to the likes of Harvard, Stanford, Wharton 3-4 years down the line. I have a few questions regarding the same:
- I have job offers in the US as well as in India with low profile companies. Would work experience in India kill my chances of getting into a top school?
- What matters more - the company or the job profile?
- Is my Grad GPA too low? bearing in mind the fact that Masters in engineering is a very rigorous program at Upenn.
- Having a grad degree from an Ivy school increase my chances?
- What sort of a job profile should I have to crack these schools?

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Utkarsh,

Regarding your queries:

- I have job offers in the US as well as in India with low profile companies. Would work experience in India kill my chances of getting into a top school?
I really don’t think that your chances would decrease.
- What matters more - the company or the job profile?
I would prefer-Job Profile, where you can strengthen your profile by showing professional achievements.
- Is my Grad GPA too low? Bearing in mind the fact that Masters in engineering is a very rigorous program at Upenn.
Weightage given to GPA, GMAT, work experience & extra-curricular in b-school is not more than 30%-35% in the entire b-school application process. You can try your chances in b-schools by clicking http://www.general-ed.com/chances-of-bschool
- What sort of a job profile should I have to crack these schools?
Where you can demonstrate leadership skills and other aptitudes.

Let me hear in case of further queries.

Best,
AK
