Hi,
Age -27, GMAT score : 700 (Q-49, V-36) Percentile -90 ( AWA 4.0 and IR score 8.0) Work Exp: - Working as a Research Assistant -II/lab manager at Vanderbilt University school of medicine since Dec 2011 - Worked as a research specialist for 2 years part time at university of minnesota (uofm) (One research publication in an international journal) - Worked as a TA for two semesters at uofm - Worked for a year as Research Associate (Intellectual Property consulting) at Gurgaon, India.
Education: - MS in Biosystems Engg from uofm (GPA - 3.8) - BE in Biotechnology from Panjab University, Chandigarh. (top 5% in class)
I am really confused about what tier schools to apply for a full time MBA. I want to learn more about management basics for starting up a company having worked on product development for a company during my masters degree and now working on drug discovery having applications in cancer research.

I always say apply to as good a school as you can get into. In your case, you have a good profile from an academic perspective, but you will likely be lumped into the Indian applicant pool which is large. your differentiator is your background professionally and your education. I would look at the list of top 15 schools and see which ones appeal to you and start there, targeting 5 or 6 schools ranging across the gamut of the rankings (in other words, don't only apply to the top 5 schools).

Thanks Bryant for taking out time to review my profile. I was planning to apply to bottom of tier 1 schools and top of tier 2 schools. Does this sound reasonable for my profile? The schools I have tentatively shortlisted so far are: 1. Stanford (I know its a long shot!) 2. Duke 3. UCLA 4. UNC - Kenan Flagler 5. CMU-Tepper 6. Cornell Would love to know your comments on the list above and any suggestions for schools considering my life sciences background. Also can I get your contact info for help with my essays from veritas?

I like your list. With one 'super' reach school and a couple of safety schools in the mix, you should find success with a well formulated application. my email at veritas is sbryant@veritasprep.com Happy to help you any way I can.
