Hello! Thanks in advance for your time.

Age - 29 (2005 college grad), 30 at matriculation
Gender - Male
Nationality - American
Ethnicity - White

Undergrad - Major Land Grant School- Chemical Engineering
GPA - 3.6
Graduate (in progress concurrent with employment will finish before matriculation) - Major State Land Grant, M.S. Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering Specialty
GMAT - 740 (49 Q, 42 V)
GPA - 3.6

Work experience -
Nuclear Submarine Officer - US Navy
- Currently the Assistant Professor of Naval Science (ROTC), leadership instructor to 250 aspiring Navy and Marine Corps officers. Teach accredited courses in Naval Engineering and Naval Weapons Systems.
- Held multiple leadership positions as one of thirteen officers in charge of a nuclear submarine and her 130 member crew.
- Co-op engineer with 20 months full time experience at Fortune 500 chemical manufacturer during college.

Recs/stories -
Current and former Commanding Officer. Current master's thesis adviser.

Other extracurricular-
- College Marching Band at Land Grant School

Plans for after school-
Nuclear industry leadership/clean tech/chemicals. Need solid transition back to civilian world after 6.5 years of active military service.

I will be applying this fall for entry in fall of 2012 Any thoughts on the below schools? Should I include safety schools? I am interested in:
HBS
MIT
Wharton
Tuck
Darden

Hi jdw,

Thanks for posting. The schools you have listed think very highly of military candidates. I recommend reading this article on business schools and military candidates:

This being said, the schools listed are some of the most competitive MBA programs in the world. If you are determined to go to business school next year, I recommend including safety schools, however if you are fine with waiting an additional year if things do not work out as planned, then you should not add more schools. No matter what, you should not apply to schools you know you will not want to attend.
