PROFILE EVALUATION [#permalink] New post 07 Jun 2013, 06:27
Hi
I have earned my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from a just-below-the-cream University in India with a 3.2 GPA.
Have 2 years of work experience (till date) in the Financial Markets as a Trader for one year and Research Analyst since then in a not-so-big firm.
Scored 680 (49Q) in the first time, but planning to give it again for a score of 720+.
Has done a lot of social work while in college and while at work. Was in the top management of Rotaract Club of my University.
Passed CFA Level 1. Passed CMT Level 1. (CMT=Charterd Market Technician)
Co-ideated a successful business venture (which is running quite well today) while in college but dropped out of the project coz of my passion for the Financial Markets.
I am looking to be in the Financial Service Industry after graduation.

I need to get into any of the follwing schools: NYU Stern, Chicago Booth, Columbia, Wharton, MIT Sloan. Also I plan to keep Rotman as my backup.
I request you to please evaluate my Profile.
Thanks a lot. :-D

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing your profile and background. While your social work, CFA and business venture are positives in a competitive admissions environment, you will need to work hard to stand out from the crowd and currently with a below-average GPA and GMAT score, as well as fewer-than-average years of work experience, you may find yourself at a disadvantage. Admissions committees may wonder why you don't get additional work experience and then apply, for example. Your chances at the programs you mentioned will be fairly slim at this point in time. Stern and Rotman being slightly less difficult but still challenging. Yes strengthening your GMAT score will help, but otherwise you'll have to have truly outstanding essays and make really compelling case for why you need the MBA now for your career goals and what you'll bring to the class, as well as why that program is perfect for you.

Good luck on your upcoming decisions.
