Hi Alex,

I have seen your posts on here and Vault over the past year or so, and just wanted to say that I have appreciated your insights and think you are a great asset to the MBA community.

I was hoping you could provide me with a rough evaluation of my candidacy (likely for Fall 2011).

My stats are:
•26 year old white male, 27 at start
•3.4 GPA from pretty highly regarded state university (two weak semesters)
•750 GMAT 46V/47Q
•Will have ~4yrs experience in product/brand marketing at small/medium-sized company, no direct reports, looking to stay within this field
•Some leadership roles in college, one ongoing role post college

What schools would you say are in range?

Thanks for your help!

If you're looking to stay in marketing:

Stanford - stretch to long-shot, but white guys with high GMATs in jobs you normally wouldn't see guys in (marketing, nonprofit) is something that Stanford may warm up to (morseo than HBS or Wharton).

Kellogg - definitely apply here. This should be your #1 focus. With solid execution on the application, you should be in the running.

Michigan/Duke/Darden - schools you should have a reasonable shot of getting into

Indiana (Kelley) - safety school

If you're very location focused in terms of marketing jobs, then schools like NYU/Columbia (for NYC) or Haas/UCLA (for California) should be on your list.
