Profile Evaluation, different profile [#permalink] New post 27 Feb 2013, 09:32
Hello,

I am a recent BS(Finance) graduate from Murray State University (2012) applying to MBA for Fall 2013. My GMAT score is 620 (Q:45, V:30) and have a undergraduate GPA of 3.54/4.00. I also hold a Diploma or Associates degree in Hotel Management from India and have 2 years work experience in hospitality industry after obtaining my associates degree. Since my graduation, I have been volunteering with a global non-profit organization based in Boston. I have been on the Dean's list a few times and have also volunteered at SIFE/Encartus during undergraduate studies. Some of the schools I have been targeting are:

- Northeastern University
- Lehigh University
- University of Missouri
- UMass Amherst
- UMass Boston
- RIT
- North Carolina State University.

What are my chance of getting through in these colleges? Are there any other potential colleges I can target? Also, what is the possibility of getting any scholarship at these programs? I would really appreciate any feedback since my profile is slightly different from a normal applicant.

Karan,
Well you have some good stuff going for you and some stuff that needs to be worked on. You have a lovely GPA which is awesome. Your GMAT is okay for the schools you propose, but since you have time you might want to try and make it go from okay to very good.

The biggest and most obvious issue is your work experience, which is pretty much "I did lots of little jobs in various things" It's a bit all over the place. Luckily, this is something that can be dealt with in the application. First and foremost by redoing your resume, and secondly by making sure you build a concrete, impenetrable, logical story about your career arc. This is very very important for you to make a good application! Besides that, I would add, that schools can be a bit more forgiving on the WE side if you have an awesome GMAT (so another reason to consider retaking).

What are your thoughts?
