Profile Evaluation - Part Time Programs [#permalink] New post 25 Feb 2012, 22:08
I'm a 26 year-old Canadian, working in silicon valley on an H-1B Visa status for the last 5 years. I'm half French Canadian by ethnicity, but my knowledge of french is only intermediate (not completely fluent). Is any of this advantageous?

Want to know my prospects for part-time US schools.

1) Worked 4 years as a promotions manager at a small (10 person) marketing agency in the video games industry - major clients incl. Dell, Samsung, Intel, Electronic Arts, Activision, etc. For the last year working as an associate brand manager at a large video game publisher.
2) 680. Q43 V39.
3) Bachelor of Commerce (Business) in 2007, University of British Columbia, 3.88 GPA.
4) During college volunteered 20+ hours a week for 2 years doing an online startup, not profitable at that time, but still a going concern. No other significant EC.
5) No certs.
6) Top tier part-time MBA programs in the US, especially Berkeley.
7) Senior management in video game marketing.

Thanks!

You are on the young side for the part-time programs, so you may feel less experienced when alongside some of your classmates in the program. Your Canadian background is interesting and will differentiate you slightly if you are able to share some insights into Canadian mindset and business culture in the class. Your GMAT is a bit on the low side for the likes of Haas, UCLA, Kellogg, and Chicago. If you can boost the score slightly, to 690 or higher that would improve your eligibility. Your GPA is solid, your career advancement is of interest, and your internship with the startup will also be a plus. I do think that some non-professional involvement in the world would be nice to round out your profile: sports, Chamber of Commerce, community service, etc.
Other strong part-time programs that you might want to consider are Carnegie Mellon, Michigan Ross, and USC: I don't know how difficult you will find the commute, but these do seem a better fit for your background and each is strong in marketing. Of course, you may want to consider the other California programs (UC Davis, Cal State Northridge, UCSD, Loyola Marymount) for the easier commute: each of these offers strong marketing programs and in each your credentials exceed their average.
