Profile Evaluation Request [#permalink] New post 13 May 2013, 09:18
Hello,

Would you mind discussing my chance for M7, and what do I need to do now to improve my profile now for a better chance in 2 years?

Stats-

Asian Male, raised in Asia, came to US around high school. Plan to apply for bschool in 2 years.

Education:

Top UC
3.45 Cumulative GPA, 3.8 Major GPA
Electrical Engineering (picked up slack in 3rd and 4th year)
SAT:1400
GMAT: Haven't taken it yet, but probably 720+

Work Experience:

Well-known Boutique IB doing M&A for one year
1b+ HF for 2 years
Going to Bulge Bracket (China) for 2 years doing principal investments

Total of 5 years

Extracurricular:

Director of a startup advising people on careers overseas
Director of a another career program bridging gap between college students and companies overseas
Some volunteer work overseas

Recommendations:

Partner at HF was an alumni at HBS, and we send people consistently to schools such as Wharton, Harvard, Stanford, Chicago, etc. Very supportive of my going to bschool

Thanks!

You are an excellent candidate!

My suggestions are as follows:
1- Get that GMAT score, study until you are ready, and can attain the 700+.
2- What stands out is why an MBA and why now (two years from now). Answer why do I need an MBA given an already illustrious career path? Be specific as well about why Harvard or Stanford, what will they uniquely offer to you via their MBA curriculum.
3- What differentiates you from the other IB/HF guys? What is unique to you- brainstorm a list of 5-10 qualities. Sell this differentiation.
4- Good extracurricular leadership. Emphasize the leadership, initiative and creating components of these experiences.
5- You have two years to build excellent relationships and thus to attain stellar recommendation letters. Build these bonds now, demonstrate your compelling skill set so when the time comes they can write letters that set you apart.

Best of luck!
