Hi, can you please go through my profile and advice what my chances are of getting into the business schools I am targeting. Also, would you recommend trying for 2010 entry ( I will only be able to send in my app in the 3rd round) or 2011 entry (In this case I will send in my app in the 1st round). Thanks in advance.
Nationality: Indian however lived in Aus for 8 years and acquired Aus citizenship.
Country of Residence: UK, living here for almost three years. HSMP visa.
Age: 29
GMAT: 670 (V35 Q47 AWA Not received yet)
Education:
Bachelors of Computer Engineering/Computer Science from University of Melbourne, Australia (well known for Eng courses in Aus) - Graduated in 2002 with 75% average (Second class Honours). It was a double degree that I completed in 4.5 years (Normal duration 5 years).
Work Experience:
• Not working currently. Will be looking for work in start of Jan 2010. Quit my last job 1.5 months ago and studied and appeared for GMAT in this period.
• I have been in IT Consulting for a major part of my career and within that Siebel (CRM software package) consulting. Last role was for a year with an international office equipment provider. I rotated within a few different teams. My main responsibility was being a BA for their front end applications (incl Siebel)/processes. I was a team member throughout. Although I didnt lead a team there, I was responsible for some important tasks and was the main point of contact for front office processes. Liaised with business regularly in this role including some senior business execs.
• Prior to that worked with one of the big 4 technology consulting firms for 3.5 years. I started working with them in Australia. The clients I worked for were an Australian bank, Government Department, Australian telecoms company. All the projects involved deploying new technology for the client and Siebel (CRM software package) was one of the new technologies. I was always part of the Siebel team, either in a technical capacity (testing or developing) OR in a functional capacity (talking to the business gathering requirements, designing etc). In the government project, I was a team lead for a team of 5-6 developers for a few months. My last year with the company was in UK. I worked for a Government client again. I was part of the Siebel deployment team and working in a technical role and was looked upon as a Siebel expert in the team.
• Started my career in India. First worked for an international entertainment company as a software development intern (approx 6 months). Second role was with an Indian IT consulting company. I worked in an application support project (outsourced to my company) for a US retail client. Team member in both and technical roles. Overall 1 year work exp in India.
• Received a couple of awards whilst working in one of the big 4 technology consulting firms for outstanding performance in certain roles.
• Overall 5.5 years work experience. Have worked in three different countries so far. Also, many of the projects required liaising with offshore resources.
Activities - Outside Profession:
• Learned beginner level Spanish - hope to reach intermediate level next year
• Participated in a charity fundraising event for Tsunami victims in Melbourne
• During uni, worked in Student Computer labs which held free classes in Microsoft Word applications. Taught in those classes.
• Sell Indian embroidery pashmina scarves on ebay. Can't call it a business as such. Its a recent initiative I have undertaken. Since I travel to India often, after I have moved to UK, I purchase scarves at cheap rates there and sell it in UK on ebay. I hope to grow this into an online business.
Career Interests After MBA:
• My purpose in doing a MBA is more of a career change than progression. I would like to go for a MBA with finance concentration. I would like to move into business consulting OR in finance industry. Which of these I choose depends on where I can leverage my past work experience the most. I am talking to experienced people I know atm in regard to this. I have no prior experience in finance (either in degree or work life) so am a bit concerned of my chances in that industry after I graduate.
The universities that I am targeting are:
London Business School
University of Oxford (Said)
University of Cambridge (Judge)
