Hi Alex
Would appreciate if you could evaluate my profile:
Demographics: 26 y.o Indian Male from Mumbai
GMAT: 710 (45Q, 41V, AWA 6)
Education:
HSC (Science) (equivalent to High School)
GPA: 3.5-4
Bachelors in Engineering (Electronics) from Mumbai University ‘ 06
GPA: 3-3.5
WE:
I shifted to the communications field soon after my engineering as i did not want to continue in the technical arena. I spent 14 months in India’s no 1 advertising agency (client servicing) and then another 19 in India’s top media planning company (I still work here) as a digital media planner. My job responsibilities include online display campaigns(branding and performance), SEO, SEM, social media as well as mobile initiatives. I have worked with clients across banking, consumer durables, pharma and automotive industries. One of my campaigns got the Client the ‘Best Internet Campaign 2008’ award in their internal annual awards.
In both the companies, I got promoted within a year and am already at Manager level with just about 3 years of work-ex.
Aim:
Post my MBA, I aim to get into one of the foll roles:
1. A position in a macro communications planning agency a la Naked Communications
2. A general management position in a Dotcom
3. An internet marketing job at the Client side
Extra Curriculars:
I was a member of the local chapter of the Rotaract Club, a worldwide NGO during my college years.
Have won a number of inter-collegiate managerial competitions at the annual festivals.
Have also participated in the Mumbai Marathon Dream Run (7km) in 2 editions. Participant in Google’s Project 10 to the 100 last yr.
LOR: I have very good rapport with my current and ex direct supervisors and both have promised to take out as much time as needed to help draft the best LOR possible. For Stanford, my third LOR will be from the current president of the Rotaract Club.
My shortlist:
1. Stanford
2. Berkeley Haas
3. Kellogg
4. Columbia
5. NYU Stern
6. UCLA Anderson
Questions:
1. Given my profile, which is slightly different from the regular Indian/M/IT pool, what do you think are my chances at the colleges I have shortlisted?
2. Keeping my post MBA career vision in mind, are there any other colleges you would recommend to me?
3. If there is one college I should drop from this list, which would be it?
4. Should I consider retaking the GMAT as male applicants from India typically have very high scores?
5. I lost a year during my engg days due to poor grades.
Will this be a significant negative factor in my apps? Should I address this directly in my essays or just ignore the issue?
Will they notice if I don’t talk about it at all?
(Just FYI- post the break, my GPA for the final 2 years was 4+)
If there is any information missing in my profile which would help you to better evaluate my candidacy, do let me know.
Thanks,
