Question on self-reported transcripts [#permalink]
11 Jul 2011, 10:28
Specifically for Harvard, the application states:
Use this section to electronically report academic transcripts for every undergraduate and graduate institution you have attended (full- or part-time) that has contributed to the granting of a degree. We do not require transcripts for courses that did not contribute to a degree. Please put any additional courses you would like us to know about in the Non-Degree Coursework area of the "Graduate and Other Coursework" section. Do not send a paper or original copy of your transcript to our office during the application process. It will be discarded.
I was Business/Pre-Med in college and took a lot of upper division biology, chemistry, and physics classes. When I graduated, my degree was in Finance and those science classes were not requirements. Do I need to include them? I called the admissions office but the person I talked to didn't seem to know.
Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info Did the credits from those classes go toward the overall credit requirement for the degree?

They didn't. I could have never taken them and still graduated with the same degree.

Here is how I interpret this:
If you took the classes at your "degree-granting" institution before your degree was granted, you should include them. So if you were in school for 5 years and have 150 hours, 30 of which did nothing, you still have to report those 30 hours because you did them at your degree-granting institution.
I don't think you are allowed to pick and choose which courses you want to report; you have to report the whole transcript.
