question regarding recommendations [#permalink] New post 27 Oct 2010, 01:42
Hi,

I have a question regarding the recommendation letters. Some schools, if not all, gives some questions for the recommender to answer. For example Columbia's questions are:
1. What is your relationship to, and how long have you known the applicant? Is this person still employed by your organization? If not, when did he/she depart?
2. Please provide a short list of adjectives describing the applicant’s strengths.

.... There a total of 9 questions.

Should the recommender answer the questions all together in an essay format or should he answer questions one by one. In both cases, what should be the optimum word count?

Thanks

All the letters should have instructions. Columbia should have character or word limit to each question. Per Columbia's letter, the recommender should separate out his/her answers and only answer the questions asked. At any rate, every school will have an adequate amount of information that is provided to the recommenders.
