Questions about EMBA [#permalink] New post 05 Nov 2004, 23:01
Hi:

Just finished my GMAT yesterday with a score of 740 (Q50, V41). Here is a brief background about myself

Work experience - 12 years almost all of it with global telecom companies
Current - Senior management in Sales with Nokia for last 6 years
Education - Undergrad in EE and Masters in Computer Sc
GPA: 3.2

Am interested in pursuing an EMBA with the one of the following - Kellogg, Chicago, Wharton, Columbia. Couple of questions

1. How does EMBA differ from FT and PT MBA as far as recruitment is concerned. The degree offered is the same; but do recruiters prefer FT MBA grads to EMBA graduates.

2. One of my goals at the end of my MBA is to switch into finance/IB; albeit focussed on tech sector. Would a MBA degree be a big help in this, particularly considering that I probably would have 15 years tech experience by the time I finish my MBA.

3. Of the schools mentioned above, what are my chances of getting admitted. Sponsorship from my company shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks in advance.

The classic EMBA program is not for students who want to change jobs. It is for mid-level mgmt types who want to continue to advance at their current employer. So some EMBA programs offer limited if any access to the school's career resources center. Before enrolling find out what accessyou will have to career resources and if recruiters at your given schools recruite for EMBAs.

Furthermore EMBA's are at a different place in their careers than most full-time MBA's. So the recruiters will be looking for less experience than an EMBA can offer.

Bottom line: Make sure the program you choose has the kind of career services you want, because there can be a significant difference in this regard between an EMBA and an MBA program.

2. One of my goals at the end of my MBA is to switch into finance/IB; albeit focussed on tech sector. Would a MBA degree be a big help in this, particularly considering that I probably would have 15 years tech experience by the time I finish my MBA.

It would help, but with all the caveats I provided above.

3. Of the schools mentioned above, what are my chances of getting admitted. Sponsorship from my company shouldn't be an issue.

You are a highly competitive applicant.

Thanks in advance.
