I am on waitlist. I would so love to get off it but the whole process is long drawn out and opaque that no one really knows what it takes to get off the waitlist.

luck and not much else unless they ask for something specific (e.g. retake the gmat). if you get waitlisted, most of the time it is completely out of your hands because it means they liked you, but not as much as they liked someone (or several others) who had similar profiles. your best hope is that those others who were admitted above you decide not to attend the school(s) you were waitlisted at, thus freeing up a spot for you. obviously, the better the school the less likely this is to happen.

you have a great profile livingfossil, good luck!

I don't know if it's different, but in undergrad I got off the waitlist of my top choice. I wrote a letter to the school basically reiterating why I wanted to go there, why it was the perfect school for me etc. Not sure if that would matter/work for bschool, but just a thought....

Let's put some life back to this thread.

Who else is on the waitlist?
So, what should we do now? Wait and wait and wait?

I'm waitlisted at Stern, Anderson, and Columbia.

Here's my impression of what they are saying based on the info they provided.

Stern - feel free to send us stuff

Anderson - if you send us something, it better be darn tootin' good

Columbia - don't call us, we'll call you.

EDIT: Marshall - just got waitlisted this morning!

I feel like I'm the Buffalo Bills of b-school apps!

I am also waitlisted. C'mon Chicago GSB.. show me some love.

Guess we don't have much of an option except to wait. I am planning on going to GSB live next weekend. Not sure how much help it would be, but it definitely can't hurt.

I am waitlisted at Stern. I plan on sending them a letter in the next few days updating them on a work project I wrote about in some of my essays. I also plan to inform them that I am visiting the campus this month. At this point, I am really not too worried because all of my nightmares came true when I was dinged at the 6 other schools I applied to. I expect to get dinged here as well.

I'm waitlisted at Wharton & HBS, both schools don't really allow any updates. They do however allow us to visit schools & info sessions. But, I'm on the other side of the world!! I need to be in a plane for 24 hours just to go there.. this kinda sucks! :(

do you guys think retaking my GMAT & submit the new scores anyway (even if the schools don't wanna take updates) will be helpful? I have mid 600s GMAT..

unless they explicitly say "don't send GMAT updates", I'd say why not send them? :)

Am waitlisted at Haas

Big myth that half the ppl on the Haas waitlist eventually make it ...........am calling it a myth seeing how the waitliast the world and its cuz.......think this time round it'll be more like 25% ppl who get eventual offers.

but am gonna give it my best shot ........submitting 2 new recos an a update statement as well.

To the rest of my brother/ sisters hanging in there with no admits - only waitlists ......... I have just one word - HOPE. Without it there is nothing

well, so far 33% of R1 waitlisters got off it (2 out of 6). that's better than most school's W/L, and the fact that they took people off after R2 decisions, versus other schools... Stanford ahem... who wait until May for the first update.
