There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
Here is what I use to do on RCs and it was not the best way to do it.
I use to read the passage and tried to skim it without understanding it. Or made a wrong assumption that I understood it and moved to the next para to finish the RC. (The flaw in this case was that you totally loose the flow of the passage and the content and when I had to answer the questions, you had to read the passage almost again or try to find the answer by skimming few lines).
Here is what I have changed in past few weeks and is has really helped me.
I read the RC paragraph and I write (P1) for para 1 and write my own 2 - 3 sentences about that paragraph. I ignore the blah blah (technical, jargon appearing) details and focus on the context. Also if the para has 2 or 3 features about lets say a religion, or product or a person I write it down to avoid looking back. Because if the passage has these features, there will surely be a question like "Which if the following is not true about the feature of..... or characteristic of...."
Similarly I write P2 and P3 and their main points. This way when I have the question, i first look at my notes to see if I have answered this, if yes I just reread the appropriate paragraph to make sure my answer matches whats in the paragraph. Sometimes I dont have to go back to the paragraph also and that saves time.
I feel it is worth it to spend that extra minutes writing your own sentence as yo understand the paragraph as you save much more time when answering the questions.
This has really helped me to improve in the RC section. Hope the above helps you.
